Grace and Mercy explained

This is an excerpt from my book titled: The grace of God: a launch into divine blessings.  The book is available on Amazon as ebooks (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B29JZ5H2) and paperback (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2DY829T)

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace for help in time of need”    Hebrews 4:16 KJV

Grace is unmerited favour. It is the divine blessings upon us. As a result of sin, we don’t merit the blessings of God but God showers His favours upon us and bless us.

In the above scripture, we were asked to come boldly unto the throne of grace. The throne of grace is the throne of God. How can sinners come boldly to the throne of God and not be consumed. This is the work of grace. We can only come boldly to the throne of God through the Blood of Jesus. When we confess our sin and then clothe ourselves with the Blood of Jesus, we become righteous through the Blood of Jesus. Then we can approach the throne of grace and get blessed.

“Now it came to pass on the third day that Esther put on her royal apparel and stood in the inner court of the king ‘s house, over against the king’s house and king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther drew near and touched the top of the scepter”   Esther 5:1-2 KJV

Haman planned to destroy all the Jews through a decree he deceptively made King Ahaserus to make. Mordecai came to Esther about the plan of Haman and Esther told him about the danger of going to the king at the inner court when not called by the king. Esther later accepted to go but told Mordecai to tell all the Jews to fast for 3 days for her. She then approached the throne of the king and was favoured by the king that she was not killed. Then the evil decree of Haman was reversed.

The 3 days fasting of the Jews provided a covering for Esther as she approached the inner court where the king was on his throne. The king was not seeing Esther directly but a covering of the fasting of the Jews upon her and she was favoured.

Whenever we approach the throne of grace through the Blood of Jesus, God is seeing the Blood of Jesus which covers us and then favour us. In the old Testament, the High priest approached the Most Holy once in a year with the blood of goat and if he didn’t make atonement for himself properly, he will be struck dead there. But thank be to the Blood of Jesus that speaks better thing than the blood of Abel. Through the Blood of Jesus, we can approach the throne of grace, which the Most Holy place in the Tabernacle of the congregation represents. Our lives are preserved and we receive abundant blessing from God. The veil between the Most Holy place and the Holy place has been torn through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, so we all now have direct access to the throne of grace. For better knowledge about the relationship between the tabernacle of the congregation and Heaven, you can get my book titled: “The temple of God: a launch into the realm of revival”.

Going back to the Hebrews 4:16, after we had come boldly to the throne of grace, then the scripture says we can obtain mercy. Mercy is a pardon for wrong done. Mercy means forgiven one for the wrong done. As we come to the throne of grace through the Blood of Jesus, we obtain mercy and our sin is pardoned. We can now qualify for the blessing of God. We must first be pardoned before we can get the blessings of God upon us.

In a court of law, an accused whose case presented by his/her lawyer touches the heart of the Judge could pardon the accused. When the accused is pardoned, no one could lay the fault committed against him/her. He/she is now free.

The mercy of God is very important for our securing of the grace of God upon us.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willieth nor of him that runneth but of God that showeth mercy”    Romans 9:15-16 KJV

God is the one that shows us His mercy as He wishes. It is not of our own power. The difference between king Saul and king David with his descendants concerning the throne of Israel is mercy. The mercy of God departed from king Saul and he lost the throne but God promised David that His mercy shall not depart from him and his descendants (2Samuel 7:15). As we serve God faithfully, we can enjoy His mercy upon us. May the mercy of God never depart from you.

Going back to Hebrews 4:16, after we have obtained the mercy, we can then find grace for help in the time of need. This shows that until we are pardoned by God for the wrong done by us before we can have the grace of God upon us. Grace helps us in the time of need. The grace of God is what we need to be successful in all areas of our lives. May the grace of God keep abounding upon us in Jesus name, Amen.

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”      Romans 6:1-2 KJV

We cannot continue to fall into sin willingly and still want the grace of God to abound upon us. We must try to live holy lives so that the grace of God could abound upon us.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be upon you forever, Amen.
