Taking the Shield of Faith

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, where with ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked”        Ephesians 6:16 KJV

The word of God has been seen to be the sword of the Spirit, the spiritual weapon needed for the attack against the devil and his demons. You have heard how the voice of the LORD uprooted the demons tormenting my life. When the devil is attacked by the word of God, he will want to counter the attack by creating fear in us. It is the shield of faith that we need to defend ourselves from the counter-attack of the devil. Both the word of God which is the sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith are very important spiritual weapons in spiritual warfare. You can’t do without any of them, both are needed.

A football team that has strong attack but weak defense might concede more goals than they can score. The team with strong defense but weak attack is more likely to lose more games because its strong defense will break down after much attack from the opponent. A good football team is the team that has strong defense, strong attack and also strong mid-field i.e. well in every departments. You footballers should know better and can give examples of clubs or countries that have such teams.

Spiritual warfare is the same. A good solider of Christ is one that has strong attacking grace, rooted in the word of God and also strong defending grace, strong faith.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”       Hebrews 11:6 KJV

“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Let us labour therefore, to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”      Hebrews 4:2, 11 KJV

Faith is needed to be able to walk with God effectively. Many have missed the blessings of God for them because they could not mix it with faith. You must believe the word of God for it to have effect in your life.

“So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”      Romans 10:17 KJV

Faith and the word of God are related. The level of your faith depends on your depth in the word of God. It is what you hear that determines your reasoning and action. A man rooted in the word will have his faith increased. Therefore, go and get rooted in the word of God so that you could build your faith.

“To another faith by the same Spirit”             1Corinthians 12:9 KJV 

Faith is a divine gift which you could ask God to give to you. 

“There is no fear in love but perfect love casteth out fear because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love”                        1John 4:18 KJV

“For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me and that which I was afraid of is come unto me”                        Job 3:25 KJV

The opposite of faith is fear. Fear has torment and whatever thing one fear will come upon one. Fear is a demonic spirit. Whatever the attack around you is, neutralise it by faith, even as the attack is there but assume it not to be there and after a while devil will take his property away. I know it’s not easy because I have been through such path but you can ask for the grace from the Lord. You must cast out fear for faith to dwell in you. Only one of them can dwell in you at a time. As children of God, we are to live by faith.

“And it came to pass when the philistine arose and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted and ran toward the army to meet the philistine”                     1Samuel 17:48 KJV

As Goliath rose against David, David didn’t allow the mountain to scare him but he too moved against Goliath and surely the mountain fell because no mountain can stand the presence of God.

“When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from people of strange language; Judah was his sanctuary and Israel his dominion. The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs. What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? Thou Jordan, that thou was driven back? Ye mountains that ye skipped like rams and ye little hills, like lambs? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the God of Jacob; which turned the rock into standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters”.           Psalm 114:1-8 KJV

Take the battle in the name of the LORD against that mountains and they shall surely skip like rams. Do not let devil put fear into you, stand firm in faith and the devil shall surely run. Cast out that fear today and stir up the faith in you.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”.    Philippians 4:13 KJV
