Biblically, Egypt and Babylon have their unique representation though they both symbolise bondage. Egypt spiritually means total bondage. Powers holding one down and preventing one from progressing and serving God. Babylon spiritually means worldliness and confusion. A church or a child of God that allows the spirit of the world to control them are in Babylon. The spirit of Babylon contaminate the worship of God. The spirit of Babylon brings heresies and wrong doctrines into the church.  Mostly, someone that is not born again or that has lost his/her salvation is spiritually said to be in Egypt. For someone that is saved and allow worldliness into him/her, is said to be in Babylon spiritually. These days, the spirit of Babylon is contending against the church worldwide. Different doctrines, worldly dressing and habits that have been allowed into the church worldwide.  Between the Egypt and the Promised land, there is a wilderness. In the wilderness, you will have to keep your hope alive and pursue the vision God has given you carefully so that you can enter into the Promised land and then become fulfilled in God. Wilderness is meant to train one up about the vision and humble one with the experiences in the wilderness (Hebrews 5:8-9).  Until you successfully finish whatever God has lined up for you in the wilderness before you can move into the Promised land. One could delay one’s stay in the wilderness as the children of Israel did because of their hardness. We must not see the wilderness as a place of punishment but a place to build us. It is a place that removes the reproach of Egypt from us as Mount Sinai and Gilgal revealed. Read Exodus 23:1-33 and Joshua 5:1-11.
